Who is Cynara?
Shimmy Shake and Share was started by a troupe member of ours named Cynara. She went to St. Paul Lutheran Church and wanted to use her talent and love of belly dance to raise money for W.H.O. so she put on the first Shimmy Shake and Share. It originally was a belly dance (only) event including the evening show. Sadly Cynara passed away from a rare form of bone cancer in 2007.
After her death Raks el Sehr wanted to honor Cynaras memory by continuing her vision, and decided to put on Shimmy Shake and Share. In 2009 at the 3rd annual Shimmy Shake and Share we changed the evening show to an international show in order to bring in a wider variety of dance groups. So far Shimmy Shake and Share has raised over $11,000 for W.H.O.
